July 9

Dear Governor McCrory,

Good morning! It is a lovely day here in the Piedmont of NC! I am going to be leaving shortly for the mammogram appointment I mentioned in my email yesterday. Since I'll have to be disrobing from the top I am going to wear something easy to remove. My question is this: since I'll be wearing easy to remove clothing and I'll be going to High Point, do you think I should do some shopping while I'm out? I do need some new clothing since I am a preschool teacher and that is kind of rough on your clothes.

Gee, I sure hope your friends in the legislature will allow me to maintain my current salary with the supplement for my master's degree because I really need the money, especially since I have to pay more for my medical care now and for the aforementioned new clothing.

Thanks for your help,
Debbie Leonard

Dear Governor McCrory,

I am sure you have been busy responding to the women who now realize they need to depend on you for various choices. I haven't yet heard from you even though I have sent several emails. Today of course poses other potential choices and I hope to get feedback from you soon about them.

The most immediate thing is my appointment at the hairdresser. She will ask me how I want my hair cut, and I am very concerned about making the correct choice. Also, I am 54 and do not currently have my hair colored but is this something I should choose? The hairdresser has so many choices available I am sure I will feel paralyzed! There are no men that work there to check with, either. Do you think I should ask a male customer if one is there? And whether I color my hair or not, should I have her blow dry it? What do you advise? While you're considering this, I am always confused about what to tip her. I'm sure you can help me with that.

After my appointment, it will be time for lunch. We have lots of leftovers in our fridge - you let me know what to pick: mango chicken? pork chop? What if I choose one that my husband wants to eat later? Should I just make a peanut butter sandwich?

Finally, I am planning on going to the NC Museum of Life and Science later since it's free for Durham County residents on Wednesdays. I appreciate this state's fine museums, but I know they are costing money, and they do educate the citizens. Are they cheaper to run than the public schools and universities? Maybe we can close the schools and just have museums open instead. So what if someone in Culhowhee or Roanoke Rapids can't make it to Raleigh or Durham! That's their own fault for living there!

But what do I know. I'm just a silly female. I will leave these important choices - and all choices - up to you.

Thank you for your time,
Nancy

Dear Governor,

I am really beginning to enjoy my daily emails to you! It makes me feel so involved with my State government! I just got back from a trip to our local post office. I had to mail my daughter's phone to her and since this involved taking care of children, I felt like this was totally within my ability to do.

On my way home, I stopped by the hardware store and amazingly, a man stopped what he was doing to help me. Then, while checking out, I was treated like any other paying customer! I was so surprised since after all, hardware stores are generally a man's territory. But I digress.

My main objective in writing today is to share an article I saw in the New York Times. It talks about how we are going backwards in North Carolina! Now I know that they are Northerners up there and they don't understand our ways but isn't this just the teeniest bit embarrassing, especially since they mention your name? I mean, don't we want papers, even Yankee papers, to be printing good stuff about us?

I have attached the link just in case you haven't seen it.

Well, that's all for today!

Sincerely,
Debbie Leonard
